In 1985, David Sanders published the first edition of The Struggle for Health, completing it in his native Harare, Zimbabwe, which had gained its independence 5 years earlier. The second edition of this book, finalised by Wim De Ceukelaire and Barbara Hutton, was published posthumously last year after Sanders’ untimely death in 2019. The Struggle for Health: Medicine and the Politics of Underdevelopment allows for a stocktaking of the past decades in this area.
